Hi. I'm a freelance writer and editor based in Montgomery, Alabama...
I write about food, food culture, travel, artists, makers and more, but people are the throughline connecting the topics I cover and stories I share. I’m an avid cook and curious about all things food but never satisfy my appetite for insight into farmers, food producers and chefs. I also adore almost anything handmade, especially if it's crafted in the South, but I’m way more into the maker than whatever it is they make. I'm envious of artists and photographers and enjoy uncovering what makes them tick. I've also got an ever-growing interest in history and consider myself lucky to live in a place that's been the home of not just one, but several, world-changing events.
Discovering and telling stories — whether they’re completely unknown or I can dig up and deliver a fresh perspective on a familiar tale — is the passion that keeps me traveling along, making new friends, asking questions, scribbling in notebooks, searching for the perfect words and pecking away on my keyboard.
While I’m happiest sharing what I learn about the above, I have written about almost every topic imaginable, and my articles have been published in or on local, regional and national magazines and websites including Garden & Gun, The Bitter Southerner, Southern Living, The Local Palate, Conde Nast Traveler, Food & Wine, Homecooked, Wildsam, AAA Explorer, Alabama magazine, Covey Rise, Modern Farmer, Birmingham magazine, Paste magazine, thekitchn.com, travelandleisure.com, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Alabama Living, Alabama Journey, okra magazine, Good Grit, Edible Lower Alabama, Southern Lady magazine, Georgia magazine, al.com, myscoop.com, rootsrated.com and more. I write a regular food column for Alabama Living magazine. I was the managing editor for the Montgomery Business Journal from 2016-2023 and am currently managing editor of JOY magazine, a quarterly statewide magazine produced by the Joy to Life Foundation, a breast cancer nonprofit.
HONORS/ACCOLADES:
My article on boucheries for The Local Palate was featured in the "Best Food Writing 2017" book.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
I spent most of my childhood in Jackson, Mississippi, and the rest of it in Gadsden, Alabama. I graduated from the University of Alabama, where I studied journalism and creative writing. I’ve called Montgomery, Alabama, home for the last 28 years.
I like to get involved and give back. I served as Chair of the fundraising “Armchair Auction” for The Alabama Shakespeare Festival (Alabama’s state theater) for multiple years and served on the board of ClefWorks. I’m currently a member of the Southern Foodways Alliance and The James Beard Foundation and am serving on the Board of Directors for Oyster South.
